Take a Closer Look

Here is a great 19th century antique treen Welsh Lovespoon. They are several features that make it interesting. Firstly the fact that it has three spoon bowls all slightly different in length was that deliberate? Did the middle one which is noticeably smaller represent a child and the two either side the parents or was it just a very impressive spoon.

The size of the spoon is much larger than most being 41cm in length with impressive deep cut roundels with star motifs. The vacant compartment at the top was probably for a poem/verse etc.

A really lovely example of a love token from the 19th century.....
