A 19th century Victorian spelling game in a mahogany box with a sliding lid. The lid is chamfered and inlaid in bone with ABC. There are approx 56 letters, two of each letter from the alphabet and a few extras. Some of the bone tiles are doublesided with an upper case and lower case letter on each side.
These boxes were used to help learn to spell and help identify letters of the alphabet.
The box measures 8cm w x 3.8cm h x 6cm d
