A lovely 19th century Victorian rosewood Tunbridge Ware writing lap/slope desk box c.1870. The intricate flowers border frames a floral picture. So as not to spoil the mosaic panels on the top of the lap desk the maker has put the key escutcheon at the right-hand side of the box. The lift-up lid reveals a two Tunbridge inkwells, two stamp slopes, a removable pen tray and a lidded compartment for storing sealing waxes etc. The drop front lifts forwards to provide the writing slope and has a velvet cover, replaced. It has a storage space under the lift-up flap. It measures 30cm. max wide x 26cm max. deep x 8cm. high at the back and 5.5cm. high at the front.
