A small 19th century Tunbridge Ware Go to bed with an octagonal shaped base. The underside of the base has remanants of the striker paper. Both the body and the lid have a geometric inlay pattern to them.
It measures 5cm h including the boss x 2cm w.
C1880
The lit match could be placed into a boss in the lid and would give enough light to go to bed hence the name. They were also used as desk items for lighting wax sticks for sealing letters.
