An unusual C19th beechwood circular antique treen tinder box with a candle holder in the centre of the lid.
It measures 10cm w x 12cm h including the candle holder.
Tinder boxes were used for storing flint, steel and dried pieces of tinder. A flame was created within the box for lighting fires etc and then the flames would be dampened down. Metal was the prefered material for tinder boxes because of fire risks with wooden examples.
