One of those rare survivors an early to mid 1700s salt. It has been well used with nibbles to the rim. Look at the great stepped foot and the underside of the bowl and the pole lathe marks when making this piece.
It is a good size probably the master salt placed on the table for the master of the house. Smaller salts would have been used for less important memebers of the household - a real piece of history.
