This is a 19th century sycamore money box made to look like a book. The spine slides sideways, about 1/3 of the way down the spine, to reveal the slot for coins. To retrieve the contents push down on the 1/3 of the spine that remains in place and then slide sideways.
The sides of the box are decorated with marbled paper just like a book.
This box has a good overall colour and patina.
It measures 13.2cm h x 9cm w x 3cm d.
