A very nice early 1800s nutmeg grater in the unusual shape of a pear. It's made from coquilla nut, unscrews in the centre to reveal a grater which in itself unscrews for storage of nutmegs.
Overall in good condition, the inner bone ring holding the grater in place has a few old repaired splits, it does screws and unscrews fine.
This shape is not common, a similar example is illustrated in Dr Recklesses book on nutmeg graters.
It measures 6.5cm h.
