An early 19th century Mealey Beg used for taking samples of butter to markets and also for shepherds and fishermen to take their butter rations with them whilst away for several weeks. Sometimes these lidded bowls were buried in the ground to keep the butter cooler. Good condition, no cracks etc  some old worm holes, all treated.
