An antique mid 19th century laburnum wood go to bed for storage on wax matches. These matches were then placed in the tiny boss on the lid and either used for providing light to go to bed, but also used for lighting sticks of wax for letter sealing.
This go to bed interestingly has the remnants of the old retail label to the inside of the lid, stationers and books, 161 Regent Street.
It measures approx 5cm h x 2.5cm w. C1840
