This is a lovely cylindrical "Go to Bed" from the early 1800s. It is turned from lignum vitae with very attractive figuring to the wood. Measuring 6.6cm h x 4cm w.

A match could be placed into a boss in the lid and would give enough light to go to bed hence the name. They were also used for lighting wax sticks for sealing letters. Note this one still has its striking paper to the base of the box.Very good condition.
