A fabulously patinated 19th century antique treen cream skimmer. The surface on this one has adopted a lovely creamy tone from use in the Dairys and the rippled Sycamore wood skin is beautiful.
Cream skimmers were used in the production of butter, the milk was left to settle for 24-36 hours and the fat would rise to the surface and was skimmed off, this was then churned and made into butter etc. hence the name cream skimmer.
This one measures 16.5cm w 3.3cm h.
