A small antique lidded mealey beg or butter bowl. Pole lathe turned from sycamore. These bowls were used to take samples of butter to the markets and also used by fisherman and shepherds for taking their rations of butter with them when they were away for a few weeks. These bowls would have been buried in peat or covered with stones to keep the butter cool.
Note the carved initials on the lid on the butter bowl which would have been the owners.
It measures 11cm w x 7cm h
