A sun dial and compass dating from the mid 1700's a small sundial in a mahogany case in very good condition..The square case has simple bevels to four corners. The two hinges are of an early style being heavily pinned There is a single brass hook and pin to close the mahogany case whilst travelling..The paper dial is unsigned but in near perfect condition, as is the blued steel needle. The dial plate and gnomon are in lacquered brass and are hand engraved. In the lid  there is a recess to contain the folded gnomon.

A really great example of a George II sundial, c1750/60.

It measures 5cm w x 5cm d x 2.3cm h.
