This is an unusual 19th century tower which has a grater top, with the top section pulling off for storage of a nutmeg etc, and then a lower section which pulls off for futher storage. Illustated in Dr Reckless's book on nutmegs and spices page 279 and originating from his collection it is described as being a' Treen tower with nutmeg grater'.
It may have originally had a cover to the top, but if so it has been gone a long while.
The tower measures 14cm h x 3.7cm w.
