An unusual  Victorian mahogany box with sliding lid inlaid with the words SPELLING Alphabet. Inside approx 48 bone letters double sided with lower and upper case letters. Lovely to have the original chamfered lid box. There are at least one or each letter, most have two letters and three letters for E, I and U.

On the base is written Given to family ..... from affecd friend J ....
