An early 1800s Lignum Vitae snuff mortar and pestle. The mortar is nicely turned with a ring base. The pestle is also Lignum Vitae,  probably not the original one for the mortar.
These were used for grinding the snuff before use.
The mortar measures 8.5cm h x 3.7cm w.
