This is a beautiful quality C19th table snuff box. On the lid is a tavern scene, three gentlemen toasting and the line
'Here are we met, three merry boys, three merry boys I trow are we’. This line comes from the famous Scottish song "O Willie Brew'd a Peck o' Maut" written by Robert Burns.
The sides are decorated with pen work thistles and leaves. The underside is a lovely burr root. The ornamental appearance of the underside of this box comes from using the burrs on trees, mostly found at the junction of the trunk with the ground or root.
It measures 14.5cm l x 9cm w.
