Two early samplers dating from the first quarter of the 1800's. The larger one is by Mary Smart and is dated 1818. It has the alphabet, hearts, a peacock, trees, flowers, birds etc. The smaller sampler is buy her sister Ann Smart and is decorated with a house, flowers.
The initials on both are the same and probably refer to the and father and mother WS heart ES and on the lines below are MS referring to Mary Smart, AS refering to Ann Smart. There are other intials as well.
The smaller sampler measures 23cm l x 21.5cm w and the larger one is 56cm l x 31cm w.
They both have an old framing label on the back when they were framed in 1930 in Friars Street Stirling.
