A fine early 19th century boxwood apothecary pill silverer. Very good colour and patina. It still retains remanants of the silver foil inside.
It measures approx 9cm h x 6cm in diameter.
These were used by apothecaries having fashioned their pills would coat them with silver by placing them in these containers with a silver powder. Gently rolling the pills within the sealed sphere with a gum resin would cover them, ready for bottling. thread
