Antique oak tinder box with inlaid lid and lovely burr oak sides.

Note the two compartments inside, The larger one for storing steel, flint and dried tinder in. The smaller one was known as a heath and was for creating the spark in, to light the tinder.

These are difficult to find in wood, the majority were made in metal. This one measures 30.5cm h x 11cm w x 6.8cm d There is a small repair to one side which is hardly noticeable. c 1800
