This is an oak staved costrel from Herefordshire,  which is brass bound and dating from the second half of the 1800s.

These are often referred to as harvest barrels and were used to carry beer, cider, spirits etc in. This one is a particularly nice small example.

 

It measures 17cm h x 10cm w.
