A lovely Georgian oak candle box, unusual in that it has an escutcheon, lock and key. Candles were expensive in Georgian times so maybe this box resided in a public area like a pub so the candles needed to be under lock and key.
The lid is also unusual as it is a sliding lid rather then a hinged lid.
It has a lovely colour and patina.
It measures 42.5cm h x 14cm w x 14.5cm d.
