This is a George III box with many attributes. It is made from solid oak and has a lovely colour. It stands on shaped bracket - type moulding which goes around the whole of the base.It has a moulded and chamfered lid, the top section of the lid having a very unusual feature in that it slides off, revealing a secret compartrment.
When the box is opened it reveals an oak lift out tray which has eight sections. Each one has an old label on the inside some of which can still be read and say 'rent, butcher and coffee'. Presumably it was used as a savings box.
The dove-tailed oak tray lifts out and there is storage space below.
It measures 23cm w x 13cm d x 17cm h.
