This is a late 1700s early 1800s lignum vitae linen smoother or saddlers smoother with good colour and patina.

In the main these were used cap down in a circular movement for smoothing and glazing damp linen, collars and cuffs or to press pleated folds. they were usually made in glass and only a few were made in lignum. They were also used by saddlers for smoothing hyde.

The underside of the cap shows plenty of signs of use which adds to the character of this piece.

It measures 14cm h x 9cm w at the base.
