A 19th century antique treen mahogany knitting sheath, from the Durham area. Rectangle in shape with a slightly curving shaft. The head has a glass pannel which covers  paper pattern delicately cut out with hearts and triangles and backed with a silk lining. The name Isabelle Harris Swan is inscribed to the paper.  Isabelle was born in Wallsend Northumberland, on 16th October 1822. She married John Clonstonin 1865 in Tynemouth. C1850

It measures 18cm l x  2.5cm w x 2cm d at the deepest point.

A great piece of social history.
