A very nice 19th century Killarney Ware card case made from arbutus wood with chequered border. It opens in the middle for storage of cards, and still retains a business/ visiting card.
It measures 11.5cm h x 7.5cm w x 1.5cm d.
Arbutus wood looks very much like yew wood with a lovely colour and patina. This shrub/small tree grows well in the Killarney region in Ireland and was used to make lovely wooden items like card cases and boxes. C1880/90
