An antique 19th century Irish card case from the Killarney region. Inlaid on one side with Shamrocks and the other side a harp. It has a sliding lid to the top to put visiting cards, business cards etc in. Arbutus wood is used for the main body of the card case.
Arbutus wood looks very much like yew wood with a lovely colour and patina. This shrub/small tree grows well in the Killarney region in Ireland and was used to make lovely wooden items like card cases and boxes. C1880/90.
