A beautiful mahogany box which contains a complete set of mini hydrostatic glass bubbles. Each glass ball is numbered and would have been placed in alcohol to measure the specific gravity of a given liquid.
If the ball floated, it would be cross-referenced against the number on the list on the inside of the lid.
This circular mahogany box is by A. Corte of Glasgow. He is recorded as a glass blower and listed in the 1824 Glasgow Directory as a 'spirit Proof Maker'. It is possible that he took over the business from James Corte, who produced these sets between 1790 and 1830.
