A very good 18th century English lignum vitae pestle and mortar with good ring turning. The pestle appears to be correct for the mortar and stands upright in the mortar when not in use.Lignum vitae was used because of its hardness and dense grain.
There are pole lathe marks evident on the base of the mortar.
The mortar measures 16cm h x 13cm w. In good condition. C1760
