This is a 19th century treen nutmeg grater in the more unusual shape of a bucket, made from coquilla nut. Note the wonderful line etched ornamental turning. The lid unscrews to reveal the grater and storage space for the nutmegs.These were pocket nutmeg graters used to grate fresh nutmeg into mulled wine etc.
