This is antique spelling and alphabet box with 118 mostly double sided bone tiles inside. Each tile has an upper and lower case letter on either side and was used as an educational tool to help pupils learn to read and write.
The bone tiles are housed in a mahogany box which has a sliding lid with a bone tile inlaid into the lid with Spelling & Alphabet on it.
Written on the underside of the base in ink is 128 letters in this box,  118 still remain.
The box measures 11cm w x 8cm d x 4.5cm h.
