An unusual early 1800s Tunbridge Ware white wood paint and print decorated sewing box.  The sliding lid has an oval print in black on green depicting the Parade, Tunbridge Wells, with numerous elegant figures, within a painted border and a further green and black painted border. On one side there is an oval escutcheon over a shallow drawer lined in original pink paper, To access this drawer a locking pin needs to be removed.

The interior still has the original pink paper, lacking divisions, there are four thread apertures to each long side,for the cottons or silks to be pulled out.

The box measures 17.5cm w  x 12 cm d x 8.7 cm h.

This box came from the prestigious collection of Dr. Brian Austen, author of a book on Tunbridge Ware.
