An interesting 19th century, probably English, Go to Bed. The top part unscrews into 3, the finial and two parts to the top section which is turned from laburnum wood, bone middle section and the bottom section is turned from cherry wood, which all unscrews as well. The wax topped matches would have been stored inside and then when in use one would have been inserted into the lid.
The base would have had some striker paper to light the match, which is no longer there.
It measures 15.5cm h x 6.5cm w at the widest point.
