An 18th century spiral candlestick with a couple of different features to the normal examples seen. This candlestick has an unusual number of metal coils, more than the normal examples of seven coils. It also has a different and very nicely shaped travellor or side arm to move the candle up and down. The lovely original base has a great patina. the original metal work, which can be seen poking through the base which would have been done when it was made around 1780/90 .It measures 19cm h. An extremely good example of a spiral candlestick.
These spiral candlesticks are a great design with a carrying hook to avoid wax spilling onto your hands. There is a side travellor which moves the candle up and down adjusting the height of the candle and also allowing the ends of the candles to be removed.
