A lovely early 1800s Tunbridge writing box or slope. The lid has been inlaid with squares of a variety of woods, from ebony and rosewood to lace wood and calamander to name a few, to give a three dimensional cube effect. There is a crossbanded border in tulip wood.

The sides are veneered in rosewood.

Inside there is a writing slope recovered and slots for the ink bottles and pens etc. If you lift up the slope there is storage space below and also two drawers at the back.

It has a working key.

The box measures 32cm d x 34.5cm w x 11cm h at the highest point at the back.
