An antique treen 19th century rouge watchmakers pot. This unscrews in two places and has the old but in mirrors inside, these highly reflective surfaces functioned as a vital inspection tool. Watchmakers used the reflective plates under magnifying loupes to examine the underside of minuscule watch jewels, hairsprings, and gear pivots for flaws, dust, or perfect polish without touching and contaminating them.
The function of red rouge was for the final stage of metal finishing. Watchmakers used it to bring out a high-luster, reflective shine on watch cases, bezels, and bracelets made of gold, silver, brass, and copper. Because it has almost no aggressive cutting action, it safely removed microscopic haziness without wearing down the delicate metal details of the watch.
This little watchmakers rouge pot measures 5.5cm h x 6cm w.
