This is a 19 th century novelty knitting sheath in the form of a shoe, probably from Teesdale. and similar ones are featured in Dr Ian McFeeters book on knitting sheaths.
This knitting sheath is particularly unusual as it has quite an intricately carved sole.
There is a fine hole at the top for the needle point to go.
This sheath measures 19cm l x 5.3cmw at the widest part.
