Here is a late 1700s/ early 1800s spice muffineer, turned from sycamore.
It has a perforated screw top and finial. The urn shaped base is of traditional form and is seated on a short stem. It has a lovely colour and patina. There are a couple of minor shrinkage marks to the base, hardly noticeable.
Note the lovely pole lathe marks to the underside of the base.
These mutineers were for sprinkling spice and sugar on to hot buttered muffins, hence the name muffineer.
This muffineer measures 15.2cm h x 6cm w at the widest section.
