A good early 1800s Lignum Vitae Go to Bed. The lid unscrews for storage of the friction matches. A single match would have been placed in the lid and would give enough light to go to bed. They were also used as desk items for lighting wax seals used on sealing letters.
This box has a very good colour and patina.
