A very well carved 19th novelty knitting sheath in the shape of a fish.
On one side the sheath is carved as a fish terminating with the top of the knitting sheath, where the knitting needle would go, protruding from the mouth.
On the reverse side it has been decorated to look like the backbone.
This novelty fish knitting sheath was probably carved by a fisherman in the Northumberland area.
It measures 22cm l x 1.8cm w.
