A very good snuff box, lathe turned from boxwood with a profile of Charles James Fox, who was the first foreign secretary, 1782 and a famous champion for liberty. it was Fox who championed the abolition of the slave trade in the House of Commons. He proposed the bill that passed into law in 1807 as the Slave Trade Act. It was the greatest achievement of the 'Ministry of the Talents' though Fox did not live to see it pass.
Intricate decoration to the lid, base and sides.
