A dated 19th century oak turned salt. It has a stepped foot and stem.
Interestingly on the underside of the base there is some old writing which says 'Made from old beams when Harold Cha...was restored in 1888'.
It is a good size measuring 16cm h x 10cm w.
As the name suggest salts were placed on the table filled with salt for meal time. The bigger salts were known as' Master Salts' and were for the owner of the house, smaller ones tended to be used by the labourer's.
