This is a well fitted second half of the 19th century mahogany medical cabinet for the home. The inside lid reading is ' S. MAW & SON PORTABLE DOMESTIC MEDICAL CABINET, LONDON".
The cabinet has a recessed brass carrying handle on the lid and a brass escuthcheon with a key. The cabinet opens by way of a hinged front containing fourteen glass medicine bottles, one a replacement. There is a three-tier shelving system at the back of the cabinet, each of which lift out. These have various additional accessories including mortar and pestle, and scales with weights, four small glass bottles etc.
The lid lining opens for use as a slim compartment for note paper.
The box measures 22cm w x 19.5cm d x 17.5cm h.
