A fabulous mahogany alphabet and spelling box with a sliding lid.

This really is a great example of an educational item used from the George III to the Victorian period.

There are approximately 233 bone double sided letter tiles. Each bone tile has an upper and lower case on each side. They are housed in a beautifully made mahogany box, which has been made to store each individual alphabet letter. Along the top of each compartment are the name of each letter.

Jane Austen was reputed to have been taught by her mother  to spell using a similar box.
