This is an unusual oak games board for the game Fox and Geese. It dates to the late 1700s and probably originates from a pub. The colour and patina are very good. It comes with 14 bone pegs.
This is a game of inequality using one /two red peg to represent the fox and twelve white pegs for the geese. The fox can move in any direction whereas the geese can only move sideways or forwards. If the fox can jump over a goose into a vacant square the goose is removed from the board. The fox in order to win the game needs to break through the line of geese and get to the otherside of the board. If the geese surround the fox and it is unable to move the game is over and the geese have win.
There are variations on the number of pegs
