This C19 th Scottish oval shaped snuff box is lovely. It has a hinged lid which reveals the maker’s name stamped inside: Geo Sinclair, Bonnington. The ornamental appearance of this box comes from using the burrs on trees, mostly found at the junction of the trunk with the ground or root. They are caused by a number of small shoots unable to break out, which form an interwoven, contorted but usually stable mass.
- box measures approx 9cm w.
