This is an interesting 18th century knitting sheath, probably from the Durham area.
It is chip carved on three sides, has a carved heart and initials EB. There is also an old collection label on it.
What is interesting is that it has been ebonised so thet the chip carving and heart stand out better- which I havent seen on many knitting sheaths - an unusual feature to have.
It measures approx 20cm l.
