A really ununusual oak box dated 1752 to the front lid. The lid slides out and is carved with a roundel and half circular indentations. Initials D T and stamped decoration in the central pannel.
The front lid has an original iron plate which slots into a hole to lock it in place. Presumably there was a padlock or similar to actually lock the box originally and hold the lid in place. A small peg or string does the trick!
It has a handle to the top for hanging it from and also to carry it.
It measures from the top of the handle to the bottom 38.5cm x 21cm w x 8.2cm d.
