This beautiful pin cushion ball was made by a girl at Ackworth school in 1809. It has been narrowed down to one of two girls with the initials EW who were at the school at that time. One of the girls was from Ackworth and the other was from Leighton Buzzard.
These pin cushion balls were made by the girls as practical tools along with being sentimental or commemorative gifts.
The symbols around the date of foliage etc symbolise friendship, loyalty and remembrance.
A great piece of history in remarkably good clean condition for its age, with one very minor spot of damage on the back.
